\nAbout Lake Cania:
\nCania is situated 30 mins from Monto. While the lake was built on Three Moon Creek in the early 1980s Aboriginal people oc cupied Cania Gorge for at least 19\,000 years prior\, dating back to the h eight of the last Ice Age. As Australia was a much colder and drier during this time it is thought that Aboriginal people may have used gorges\, as they offered access to predictable water and food resources.
\nThere are nine recorded Aboriginal art sites in Cania Gorge\, but these are not accessible to the public. Paintings include handprints and images of anim als and their tracks.

The area around Cania Gorge has had a varied history over the past 150 years. Thomas Archer was the fi rst European to explore the headwaters of the Burnett River.
\nCania Station was established during the 1850s and ran sheep until 1883\, when beef and dairy cattle were introduced.
\nGold was discovered just to the north of Cania Gorge in 1870 and the township known as ‘Cania Goldfie lds’ soon sprang up along Three Moon Creek. The township’s population fluc tuated over time until mining finally ended in the early 1920s. The waters of Lake Cania eventually covered the remains of the goldfields after Cani a Dam was built on Three Moon Creek in the early 1980s. The tops of build ings can still be seen when the dam is low. Last seen in 2010 before the floods of January 2011.
\nThe area in Cania Gorge\, east of the picn ic ground\, became a scenic reserve in 1924\, but it was not until 1977 th at it was gazetted as a national park. A further addition to the national park was made in 1979\, and in 1989 the Francis family\, owners of Cania S tation\, donated the land that comprises the central section of the park.< /p>\n

Heading of on an approx 20km drive of unsealed road\, high c learance vehicles can take the special drive through the forest to meet up with the conventional vehicles at the top of the range to enjoy morning t ea at the old forestry camp area followed by a peek through Bill’s window and passing the present logging area with spectacular views over the fores try and the quaint village of Kalpowar. Return back to the recreation area to enjoy a picnic lunch and those who enjoy a hike can follow on for an e njoyable hike with plenty to see while others can sit back and enjoy the p eace of the recreation area. This drive will take us out over Bukali Scrub and pass t hrough Bancroft to take Walkers Creek Road to Kalpowar with a run down Fir eclay road. A quick toilet stop at the recreation area before heading up t o Dalga. Smoko on the banks of the Kolan River at Dalga before heading int o Builyan and Many Peaks with a stop at the Many Peaks Weir. Heading back to Monto via the Kalpowar Range where we will stop in to explore the old c opper mine and have lunch before heading back to Monto via Dakiel Road\, C annindah Road and Langs Roads. This drive is suitable for 4WD and 2WD with clearance. This trip offers great bush tracks through forest grazing coun try with frequent stops to admire the views from the hill tops.

This drive will take us out to Moonford fo r smoko/toilet stop at the Cania Gorge Recreation area\, then head through Kariboe Rd to meet up on the highway for a few Km and turn of at Lawgi Ha ll to take the back Road through Lawgi to Mt Scoria. 1 of only 3 in the wo rld\, Scotland\, Sicily and on our doorstep at Thangool this amazing Mount ain is made from column shaped volcanic rock that when struck has a musica l tone. Mount Scoria has picnic table and toilets . The drive is scenic wi th some nice views and consists of 39km of gravel road with a few rough se ctions and is suitable for all vehicles. Mungungo Sports & Recreation Club Inc are hosting their mid-winter cricket fundraiser at the MCG (Mungungo Cricket G rounds) to raise funds for Life Flight\, Angel Flight & Monto Aged Care on Saturday 15th September 2018.
\nA series of friendly 7-a-side match es throughout the day with the winning team taking on the Mighty Mungungo in the finals. Games start at 8.00am sharp Places available for teams or s ingles at $5.00 per player.
\nThroughout the day plenty of great foo d from our canteen is available with a BBQ at lunch. We have a licenced ba r\, however\, NO BYO ALLOWED. This is a charity event and we are raising f unds for worthy causes.

lead act for this years Festival entertainment.

This drive will take us out to Mulgildie t o visit an old grave yard\, old weir and the Bunyip Hole with a back drive through to Abercorn where we will visit the soda springs and taste the cr isp soda water as nature herself supplies. Smoko at the Abercorn tennis co urts before heading out to explore Wuruma Dam and enjoy our picnic lunch b efore heading along Old Rawbelle Road to visit the original site of the Ra wbelle homestead and see the old grave yard beside the Nogo River. We will then stop at the rest area at Coominglah before heading home via Hurdle G ully with a chance to take in the views from the Coominglah lookout. This is an amazing drive with plenty to see\, visit and explore. Don’t forget t o pack your smoko/lunch\, chair and camera. See You There!!

About Kalpower
\nThe Kalpowar Hall was built in 1954 using locally milled timber from the Kalpowar Forest\, b uilt only by voluntary labour and without debt.
\nThe village of Kal powar is situated in the foothills of the Burnett Range\, beside the Kalpo war State Forest which protects a mosaic of forests. Patches of dense rain forest with towering hoop pines remain between open eucalypt forests and h oop pine plantations. More than 150 plant species occur in the hoop pine r ainforest which was first logged in 1918.
\nThe word Kalpowar means either Pine Tree or Copper in Indigenous language. Kalpowar is home to a v ery unique carnivorous snail. The snail has been named Pedinogyra Kalpowar (or Kalpowar flat-coiled snail) as it was first located and identified in Kalpowar State Forest in 1982.
\nThe little village was voted top 5 0 small towns in Australia in 2016 and voted as Australia’s best kept secr et. This place has something for everyone and is so warm and inviting\, yo u will never want to leave. Kalpowar been highly praised for our 4WD\, ca mping\, horse trail riding and motocross tracks in the State Forest.

Mungungo Sports & Recreation Club will be holding our AGM at MUNGUNGO PUB
6:00 pm on Thursday 5 March 2020.
\nThe meeting will take a little lo
nger than usual as Vicki & Steve will be stepping down as members and offi
ce-bearers to be re-elected before kicking the meeting off.
It is with regret\, as advised in
our previous meeting some months ago\, Steve Alford & myself will be step
ping down as president and secretary for the coming year and 2020 event.
\nWe have found invol
vement in this event each year has developed great friendships and has bee
n so very rewarding when you see how many cricketers and their families ha
ve enjoyed their day. It is also a pat on the back to our small committee
for the funds that you have assisted raising continually each year to our
forever grateful charities.
We encourage you as members to discuss these roles among your fr
iends and colleagues to see if there is any interest from the community in
taking on these roles.
\nSteve and I will continue as members and provide handover and suppor
t to ensure we continue this very worthwhile community event.<
