Another busy week in Monto.
ANZAC DAY. The community gathered for the Anzac Day Remembrance ceremonies. It is fantastic that this day is still held to remember the sacrifice of so many so we may have the wonderful life we enjoy today.
Annual Monto Show
The show events began with a delicious High Tea last Sunday and the announcement of Miss Showgirl. Congratulations to our 2017 Miss Showgirl Rachel Black and runner up Ashleigh Rollings.
Come along and enjoy two days of the celebration of country life. Check out the horse, cattle, goats, poultry and farm produce. See what the country cooks can produce with beautiful cakes and preserves and much more. A lot of shows in the larger regions are moving away from the tradition that began this institution. The committee has been working hard to bring new events including the Monto Rural Traders Young Farmers Challenge on Saturday at 6.30pm and the 2017 Ute Muster. The Grand Parade starts at 1pm on Sunday 30 April.
Monday is a public holiday. Monto Magic Tourism is having a working bee at the RV Stopover from 9am. Our garden project is coming along and our plants are growing beautifully. We are also going to set up the office properly so we can start working on a small museum in the Railway Station. We will then give the Visitor Information Centre a makeover. If you can spare a couple of hours we would be most grateful. We value your input.
Care and Digitization of Photographic Collections Workshop
Don’t forget that this workshop is being held at the Cultural Centre on 6 & 7 May. Lydia from Queensland Museum will be showing us how to care for our old photos. You can bring your own along or use some of Monto’s collection. The cost is only $20 for the two days plus $40 for the materials needed. Morning Tea, Afternoon Tea and lunch will be provided each day. We have been fortunate to receive a grant from the Regional Arts Development Fund in partnership with the Queensland Government and North Burnett Regional Council to be able to bring this to you.
A Night with Opera Queensland.
Mark 3 September 2017 in your diaries. We are planning a great event with Opera Q in Monto. We have decided to hold the event in our beautiful Art Deco Community Hall. Invite your friends and family for a weekend in the country, stay in a country Pub or motel and enjoy our country hospitality.
Legend & the Locals.
Another note for your diary. 14 October 2017. Join Legend Sara Storer and enjoy the talent of our local artists. Concert in the Monto Community Hall.
Welcome to our new members. We invite you to become involved with Monto Magic Tourism. Our small band of volunteers needs some help to bring these events to our town. The more visitors we encourage to come, the more our economy will benefit
