Please be mindful of private properties in the area and only park in public spaces. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nCourse Description\nThe Full 50k\nStarting at the Grand Hotel Many Peaks\, complete a full out and back lap to Barrimoon siding\, covering the most scenic parts of the rail trail\, including the tunnels. An 8 hour cut-off applies to this length. \nThe 23k Uphill\nStarting at the Grand Hotel Many Peaks\, follow the rail trail up to the tunnels and finish at Barrimoon siding. Shuttle buses will then transfer you back to Many Peaks. A 4 hour cut-off applies to this length. \nThe 23k Downhill\nLeave the Grand Hotel Many Peaks via shuttle bus for the half-hour ride up to Barrimoon siding. Start at the tunnels for a leisurely run back down the rail trail to the Hotel. A 4 hour cut-off applies to this length. \nThe 12k Taster\nLeave the Grand Hotel Many Peaks and follow the rail trail 6k to a turn-around and head back to where you started. A 2.5 hour cut-off applies to this length. \n*The cut-off times will be strictly adhered to\, ensuring our organisers\, contractors and volunteers can stick to the event schedule. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSchedule\nFriday 18th July\n5pm to 7pm – Bib collection and document signing at the Grand Hotel Many Peaks. \nSaturday 19th July\n6.15am – Race precinct at Grand Hotel Many Peaks open for bib collection\, document signing and drop bag drop-off.\n6.45am – Race briefing at the race precinct (Mandatory attendance by all competitors).\n7.00am – 50k & 23k Uphill races start at the race precinct. 23k Downhill shuttle buses leave from Many Peaks to Barrimoon.\n7.10am – 12k Taster race starts at race precinct.\n7.50am (approx.) – 23k Downhill race starts at Barrimoon.\n9.00am to 11.00am – Shuttle transfers back to Many Peaks for 23k Uphill competitors. Shuttles will leave as they fill.\n10.00 am – 12k presentations at the race precinct.\n12.00pm – 23k presentations at the race precinct.\n5.00pm – 50k presentations and drop bag collection at the Grand Hotel Many Peaks.\n5.30pm until close – live music\, meals and bar open at the Grand Hotel Many Peaks.\n*Times above may need to be adjusted as required by the Milepost Events team. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAccommodation\nThere are multiple accommodation options in the Boyne Valley\, with camping and caravans being well catered for. Please note that the Grand Hotel Many Peaks does not have options for accommodation yet. \nThe Boyne Valley Community Discovery Centre in Ubobo is a 20 minute drive north from Many Peaks. This is a well maintained facility with multiple accommodation options available\, including private and bunk rooms\, as well as ample camping space. This is a volunteer run facility and only manned limited hours\, so please be patient on hearing a response regarding bookings. \nCamping is available on the rail trail sidings at Builyan and Golembil\, both a short drive from Many Peaks. Payment can be made via the below link\, or at the honesty boxes onsite. Golembil has a composting toilet\, but no other facilities\, including no mobile reception. The road to get to Golembil is also dirt. Builyan campers can access the Builyan Many Peaks Community Development Association hall across the road for toilets\, showers and Bbq’s. Coins required for showers and Bbq’s. Both sites are suitable for caravans but no power is available. Please read all signage before setting up camp. \nBehind the Pines in Kalpowar have converted the old Kalpowar school grounds into a well maintained camping grounds. “We are a low cost campground. The closest to the Kalpowar Tunnels Rail Trail with Toilets\, showers\, outdoor movies\, firewood. A stop for the BNT trekkers we offer support – food drops\, internet\, power outlets\, water etc” \nThe Barracks at Kalpowar “RAIL TRAIL friendly low-cost accommodation at Kalpowar the gateway to the Dawes Range Section of the Kalpowar Rail Tunnels” \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe closest town with accommodation and services is Calliope\, a 45 minute drive north of Many Peaks. Monto 50mins west of Many Peaks  has accommodation and two grocery shops (IGA & Foodworks) and other services. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease note that services are limited in the Boyne Valley\, so ensure you have enough fuel and supplies to get you through the weekend. The Ubobo General Store is well stocked with general supplies\, but is closed Sunday. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGeneral Information\n– The road through Many Peaks is tight\, and unsealed to the south\, so we encourage competitors and spectators to be mindful when driving and parking in the area and to be aware of traffic and pedestrians.\n-Throughout the course of the Boyne Valley 50\, vehicular traffic has priority at all road crossings. If you are asked to stop by a race official\, or if there is oncoming traffic at an unmanned crossing\, you must stop.\n– Only feet are allowed within the starting corral. No bikes\, scooters\, horses or camels. This is for the safety of all competitors.\n– Follow the Code of Conduct in the image below and any instructions from permanent signage on the trail. It’s there for your safety and to best preserve the trail.\n– Toilet access is available at the Grand Hotel Many Peaks\, but please allow additional time in case of lines. On course\, 50k & 23k competitors will have access to the composting toilets at Golembil and Barrimoon sidings.\n– Aid stations with water\, fruit and some hydration products will be provided at Golembil and Barrimoon sidings. No cups will be provided at the aid stations\, please BYO cup or water bottle. For 50k competitors\, an aid station will be at the 12k\, 25k and 38k points. For 23k competitors\, an aid station will be at the 10k point (Downhill) or 12k point (Uphill). A water only station will be set up 6 kilometres from the race precinct.\n– Telstra phone reception works between Calliope and Many Peaks\, but not up the range to Barrimoon. Optus phone reception is very limited anywhere in the Boyne Valley.\n– All rubbish must go in provided bins. Anything you take onto the trail must come back with you or be left at an aid station.\n– Drop bags can be utilised by those competing in the 50k event. These must be ‘soft sided’ bags\, clearly labelled and given to the registration team by no later than 6.45am on race day. One drop bag is allowed per competitor. These can then be collected back at the race precinct after 5pm.\n– If you need to withdraw from the event at any point after signing on\, please ensure you let the Milepost Events race director know prior to leaving the area so that we don’t end up with a search and rescue operation on our hands. As competitors cross the finish line to record their times\, we also use this as a head count.\n– Be courteous on the trail. Keep to the left to allow returning runners room or for faster runners to pass. If passing another competitor\, give them notice of your intention and only do so when safe for yourself and the other competitor.\n– Under whatever circumstances\, the race director has final say on any competitors ability to continue due to health or injury concerns or regarding changes to the event in the case of issues on the trail. Please cooperate with our team\, volunteers and contracted personnel.\n– All events held by Milepost Events are showcasing our team and the running community to the public. We want everyone involved or affected by these events to allow us to continue for many years to come. All it takes is a smile\, a G’day or a wave. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRisks\nTrail running events come with their own set of risks\, and the Boyne Valley 50 is no different. Milepost Events have developed a risk assessment providing steps to mitigate the impact of hazards; however\, being that the event is held in a natural setting\, there are many things we cannot control. Rainfall\, fires\, fauna interactions\, creek beds\, steep drop-offs and rock or tree falls are all naturally occurring in the valley. Whilst any excessive risk would require us to cancel or postpone the event\, minor instances where Milepost Events consider the event safe to continue\, leaves isolated incidents of personal safety up to competitors. The below Indemnity Form is required to be understood and acknowledged by all competitors as part of the event registration process. If you are injured on the trail\, require medical attention or are unable to return to the event precinct\, please make this known to a volunteer or another competitor who in-turn can alert our trained first aiders. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMandatory Gear\nCompetitors must carry the below items during their participation in the event:\n– Race bib must be worn on the front of the body and visible at all times whilst competing.\n– A water bottle or hydration pack capable of carrying at least 1 litre (50k)\, 500ml (23k) or 250ml (12k)\, must be filled prior to race start.\n– Compression bandage (snake bite bandage).\n– A mobile phone with full charge (mandatory only on 50k and 23k; advised on 12k). There is limited phone coverage along the trail\, however in an emergency\, calling 000 will provide the best chance of making contact with emergency services. Download the Emergency Plus app to assist with providing your location.\n– A headlamp or pocket torch is suggested to be carried by 50k & 23k competitors. The tunnels can be dark at points.\n– Sunscreen\, insect repellent\, hats and sunglasses are all recommended\, but not mandatory. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpectators\nThe Boyne Burnett Inland Rail Trail offers multiple vantage points to support competitors. At the top end of the trail\, Barrimoon siding has a large parking area near composting toilets. Golembil siding is half way up the trail from Many Peaks and has ample parking space and well as composting toilets. Please note\, both of these locations have no services\, little or no phone reception\, limited shade and the Gladstone Monto Rd is unsealed in sections. Livestock and wildlife also frequent the region. Take care when entering these areas to ensure you don’t disturb private properties\, nature or encroach on the event track. The event precinct will be at The Grand Hotel Many Peaks where spectators can make use of the hotels services. Please note that the event area and services provided by the organisers are retained for use by competitors and their support persons only.
