Our Vision and Activities

The Monto Performing Arts is dedicated to fostering and growing a vibrant and dynamic community of performers. Our aims are threefold:

  • To foster and grow a singing group that performs at local events. We believe in the power of music to bring people together and create memorable experiences for both performers and audiences alike.
  • To perform theatrical productions for the local community. Our theatrical productions aim to showcase local talent and provide entertainment that resonates with our community.
  • To create an inclusive and welcoming group that allows members to learn new skills and develop the confidence to perform. We are committed to ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background or experience level, feels valued and supported in their artistic journey.

Performance History

Monto Performing Arts began in 2022 with our first production, A Very Monto Christmas, which we performed in Mulgildie, Kalpowar, and on three occasions in Monto. Monto Performing Arts often performs locally at events such as the Monto Show, Monto Markets, Anzac Day, Ridgehaven Aged Care Facility, and various Christmas events.

Dad and Dave Go to Monto was a radio play interspersed with songs of the Roaring Twenties, performed for Ridgehaven’s Twenties night in 2023, and a reprisal of Dad and Dave was performed for 2023 Heritage Day at the Historical Society. We were proud to be the support act for Louise the Diva on her tour, performing our version of Songs of Stage and Screen.

2024 was a huge year as we launched a world premiere musical, Silk Rags the Musical, and developed an original musical for the Monto centenary called Monto Snippets. Another highlight was joining with Bilo Local Vocals to learn and perform Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus for the Biloela Carols by Candlelight and Monto Combined Churches Carols Service. We finished off the year with our own Carols by Candlelight, held at the RSL on Christmas Eve.

Workshops and Skill Development

Monto Performing Arts has been proud to run a series of workshops in various aspects of the performing arts. These have included:

  • Acting technique workshops, designed to help participants refine their acting skills, understand character development, and improve their stage presence.
  • Creative writing workshops, aimed at unlocking the creative potential of our participants and encouraging them to explore and develop their storytelling abilities.
  • Singing workshops titled “You Too Can Sing,” which focused on vocal techniques, breathing exercises, and building confidence in singing.

We are excited to announce that there will be more workshops in the future. These upcoming workshops are open to members of the public and will cover all facets of performing arts, including:

  • Vocal training
