(Dry Weather Only & High Clearance Vehicle Required)
This is a full day 4WD self drive tour which will set you back in time.
On the drive from Monto to the Beautiful Betsy area you will come across the Kroombit Tops Lookout. This is the only point where you will found amenities so it is well worth a stop and the view is spectacular. If you strike a clear day – it is possible to see Gladstone.

Continue your journey and you will arrive at the resting place of Beautiful Betsy whose wreckage is strewn across a small section of the Kroombit Tops National Park. The story of the ill fated aircraft is signposted on a short walk surrounding the site. There were 8 people on board in total and their stories are also depicted at the site of the wreckage.

“Betsy” was found by a park ranger in August of 1994, nearly 50 years after the World War II Liberator Bomber which was travelling from Darwin to Brisbane vanished, after a bushfire had ravaged the area.

Prior to departure it is essential to contact Queensland Parks and Wildlife to ascertain “Betsy’s” accessibility.
Please remember to take adequate water and food for this day trip and note that there is no mobile reception for duration of this trip.
